OUR PRACTICE AREAS
HEAD INJURIES
Head injuries are among the most serious and dangerous injuries that workers suffer. Trauma to your head can cause external and internal injuries.
A bump to the head can cause cuts, scrapes, and bruises to your scalp. Head trauma can also cause bruises and bleeding in the brain. The more serious injuries are called traumatic brain injuries, or TBIs, including concussions and permanent injuries.
Head Injuries in the Workplace
Head injuries in the workplace can range from something as mild as a bump or as serious as a TBI.
The most common causes of work-related head injuries include:
- Falling Objects
- Slip and Fall Accidents
- Falling from an Elevated Surface
- Auto Accidents
While anyone can suffer a bump on the head, some occupations are more risky, and therefore workers are more vulnerable to head injuries.
These occupations include:
- Construction
- Manufacturing
- Loading Dock/Warehouse
- Delivery Personnel
- Law Enforcement
- Firefighters
Workers in these occupations are more vulnerable to head injuries, including TBIs. That said, workers in any occupation can find themselves suffering a head injury.
Symptoms of Head Injuries
Of course, most head injuries are painful, but oftentimes, we brush off symptoms as being no big deal. What many people don’t realize is that head injuries may not present symptoms for days or even weeks after the injury occurs. That is why it is so important to get medical attention right away after any head injury.
Get medical attention if you have suffered a head injury and are experiencing any of these common symptoms:
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Dilated Pupils
- Fluid from Ears or Nose
- Slurred Speech
- Seizures
Getting medical attention right away can help prevent your injuries from escalating or causing permanent damage. Tell your doctor that your injury happened while at work. This is important if you file a workers’ compensation claim.
