Signs that you are suffering from a head injury

After an injury occurs, the accompanying pain can be immediate or gradual. Head or brain injuries are particularly dangerous because they can occur internally or externally. Generally, these injuries are caused by a blow, impact, or jolt to the head that can affect the brain, generating a traumatic brain injury.

The brain is the most complex and fragile part of the human body. It is the seat of intelligence, our database and memory source, the interpreter of the senses, and the director of all movement. Thus, it is necessary to prevent injuries, and if you suffer any, you must act immediately.

To be able to distinguish if you are suffering from a trauma or injury to the head or brain, you should pay attention to the following symptoms:

Mild brain injury:

  • Brief loss of consciousness
  • Dolor de cabeza
  • Confusion
  • Daze
  • Mareos
  • Blurred vision or tired eyes
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Fatigue or lethargy
  • Change in sleep patterns
  • Changes in behavior or mood
  • Problems with memory, concentration, or attention.

A moderate or severe brain injury can have the same symptoms, in addition to the following:

  • Headache that gets worse or goes away
  • Repeated vomiting or nausea
  • Seizures or spasms
  • Not being able to wake up from sleep
  • Pupils that are more dilated than usual in one or both eyes
  • Trouble speaking
  • Weakness or numbness in the arms and legs
  • Loss of coordination
  • Increased confusion, restlessness, or agitation

If you suffer from some of these symptoms, you should turn to a health professional and have a legal representative that can help you receive the rights that the law provides. Remember that these injuries can be prevented by wearing a seatbelt, not driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle and skateboarding (or during any sport or activity that puts your head at risk), by avoiding leaving objects misplaced to prevent falls, etc.
